Taekwondo Australia
Taekwondo Australia (ATA) was founded in 1974 by 6 dan masters lead by Sung Soo Lee. It soon became the official governing body for Taekwondo in Australia.
The ATA was also instrumental in getting Taekwondo accepted into the 2000 Sydney Olympics as a medal sport. Ke Hyung No served as President of the ATA for 21 years, a true pioneer of Taekwondo in Australia and worldwide.
About Us
Taekwondo Australia is a peak industry body recognised by the government, sports commission and Kukkiwon to represent the collective interests of the martial arts in Australia. This includes a number of areas including regulation, technical standards, grading system, fees, and national and international championships.
Our Mission is to promote and develop taekwondo as an authentic martial art through the support of our members, affiliates, schools and students. Our goal is to see taekwondo become the dominant sport in Australia and to provide a framework for all players to compete at the highest level possible.
Founded in 2002, Taekwondo Australia was created to help the local martial arts industry thrive and progress on a Jacqueline Ashby TKD national basis. The organization is now recognized by the Australian Olympic Committee, the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) and Korea Taekwondo Kukkiwon as the only official governing body for taekwondo in Australia.
Ke Hyung No's dedication and hard work is a legacy that continues today with many of his former students still in taekwondo. He has been awarded the Queen's Medal for his achievements in taekwondo and is regarded as one of the greatest taekwondo instructors in Australia.

Membership
Taekwondo Australia is a not-for-profit member organisation, guided and supported by eight state and territory associations. They are the critical touchpoints in growing Taekwondo as a sport for all and supporting national programs locally.
The martial art of Taekwondo is a disciplined and physical activity that develops mental and moral skills. Students learn to focus on goals and work toward them, increasing their confidence and self-esteem. They also learn to develop discipline and how to control their emotions.
Those who take part in taekwondo are likely to be healthier than their peers and more productive at school. They also tend to be less likely to smoke, drink and engage in other bad habits.
Rhee Taekwon-Do is widely publicised as being Australia's first and biggest taekwondo school, having at least 294 publicly listed dojang (training halls) throughout the country. It is also alleged that several Australian martial arts school founders received their foundational taekwondo training at Rhee's schools.
Training
We have an extensive range of training programs for all levels. From the basics to high performance. Our introductory Kids Taekwondo program is one of the most comprehensive confidence building martial arts programs for children in Australia today.
We also offer sparring and Poomsae (competition patterns) training. These are extra to our regular training programs and require a commitment from members.
All our instructors have years of experience teaching or competing and regularly update their FirstAid, CPR and Working with Vulnerable People accreditations.
In addition we also have a coach education program. This provides a pathway for experienced and new coaches to attain the accreditation required to teach TKD.
All of our instructors are internationally certified and recognised through Kukkiwon World Taekwondo Headquarters in Korea. This means that when students grade to Black Belt their certification is delivered direct from South Korea.
